Japan Series - The Colours of Gion, Kyoto

Geisha rushing to ochaya teahouses for performance. Traditional merchant houses serving expensive kaiseki ryori. Okiya or guesthouses where geisha and maiko live during their career. And tourists, lots of them, armed with cameras.

This is the heart of Gion. This is Hanami-koji.

As everyone else has commented, love the collage of pics! I've always wanted to visit Gion and see those geisha girls.

These are absolutely stunning photos! I've never been here but always wondered what it was like after reading several books on Gion :)

Your images brought Arthur Golden's novel, "Memoirs of a Geisha" to life for me. Even the cinematography of the movie was dark and murky, I much prefer your vivid images of Gion! In fact, I think the pictures are so lovely that I honestly feel they are the 2nd best thing to visiting Japan.

Thank you,

Priyanka
