Armory Wharf Cafe, Newington

I first read about the Armory Wharf Cafe in a local newspaper. I think it was early 2008 and this popular cafe on the riverbank of Paramatta River had just been burned to the ground by suspected arsonists.

The fire did not deter the spirit of the owners, nor the regular customers from supporting them. For the next year or so, it operated from a makeshift cafe the size of a shoebox not far from its original site. That continued until its current award-winning home opened in late 2008/early2009.

I am a great fan of this cafe - good coffee, decent menu and relaxing water views.  But I think my dog loves it more. Situated within the Blaxland Riverside Park, there are walking trails and vast rolling greens for a walk afterwards. It's also one of a handful of cafes in Sydney where you could take your dog along without getting can't-you-just-leave-your-dog-at-home-you-poor-soul looks from the waitresses or other patrons.

A visit here also guarantees a loooooong walk for my dog, and a satifying meal for the owner.
